Emile Balland

Terroir

Clay-limestone and siliceous soils on limestone subsoils.

Harvest

The grapes are harvested by hand. The maceration of the mostly destemmed harvest lasts for 10 to 15 days.

Winemaking

One or two rack-and-return operations are performed during the first half of alcoholic fermentation, supplementing relatively light pump-overs.
After devatting, malolactic fermentation takes place in vats, before aging for several months. Only the press wines are sometimes aged in barrels before blending with the free-run wines.
