Gift set: AOC Saumur (blanc)
Saint Martin and his disciples spread viticulture there as early as the 4th century, and by the 12th century, Saumur had established itself as a wine trading hub, supported by Henry II, Count of Anjou, and the monks of Saint-Florent de Saumur and Fontevraud. The region first owed its medieval reputation to its white wines, and from the 17th century onwards, it became the major hub for the Loire wine trade.
The vineyard rests on the tuffeau of white Anjou, the soft chalk into which cellars and castles were carved. The Saumur region is also the warmest and driest area of the Loire Valley: Chenin Blanc ripens there consistently without losing any of its freshness. Dry Saumur blanc derives its entire personality from this: delicate fruity and floral aromas, a taut and drinkable palate, and a balance firmly oriented towards freshness, with that mineral touch that only tuffeau can provide.
Enough reading, time for tasting: six bottles to see for yourself (and your taste buds) the most refined offerings of the Saumur blanc appellation.
